Take a sneak peek of The Philanthropist episode 2 “Myanmar” airing this Wednesday, July 1 on NBC (10-11 p.m.)

Episode Synopsis: The Maidstone-Rist Company is outed by a human rights organization as having ties to businesses in Myanmar, also known as Burma, where there is oil and gas exploration using forced labor. Teddy (James Purefoy) decides the only way to conclude whether to continue their business activities in the country is to get advice from Daw May Lin Wai, a revered Burmese democratic leader who has been under house arrest in the country for nearly two decades. During his search for Lin Wai, Teddy meets a young girl, desperately in need of a kidney transplant. The girl’s father is a suitable donor but he’s being kept at a forced labor camp and it is feared that he won’t get to his daughter in time to save her life. Back in New York, Philip (Jesse L. Martin) and Olivia (Neve Campbell) desperately try to explain Teddy’s behavior to an irate board of directors. Michael Kenneth Williams also stars.

NY Times review for “The Philanthropist”:

Charity does not begin at home. As it has for a lot of rich and powerful people of late, it begins in Africa. Teddy Rist (James Purefoy), the playboy tycoon hero of “The Philanthropist” on NBC, is negotiating an oil deal in Nigeria when a near-death experience tears away his smug complacency. Up to a point.

Teddy risks his life to rescue a small boy and finds that even after he returns to New York, he cannot settle back into his routine as a billionaire bon vivant. After a few manic moments and a meltdown on CNBC, Teddy returns to Nigeria, intent on hand-delivering food and supplies to the boy’s village. Read more

Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter of ‘Scream 4′, reveals that he is currently trying to ‘figure out a Sid-less scenario’ due to Neve Campbell’s refusal to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott.

Neve Campbell, who portrayed Sidney Prescott on the first three “Scream” films, reportedly has refused to get involved in the fourth installment of the thriller-mystery, “Scream 4″. The rumors sparked as the screenwriter of the film, Kevin Williamson, recently wrote in his Twitter page, “Trying to figure out a Sid-less scenario. She won’t do it. This sucks.”

Campbell’s tight schedule reportedly becomes the reason behind her refusal to be involved. She currently is starring in a new NBC TV series entitled “The Philanthropist” and working on lots of movie projects. The 35-year-old actress previously worked on “Relative Strangers” and “Closing the Ring”.
