The two seem excited to get back to their “Scream” roles. It’s not only a high-profile gig; the happily married couple also met while shooting “Scream.” It’s no surprise that they’re game to go back for more.

“I can’t wait to do another ‘Scream,’” David told us. Soon enough. If all goes according to plan, the cameras will start rolling sometime in April.

That’ll take us through the next three.” No confirmation on whether Wes Craven will return as director.

The poster art and tagline was released in time for the American Film Market. Rumours are swirling that the films will be targeted at a younger audience than the first three which would probably mean a PG-13 rating (the first one was rated R). Will this open the series up to a wider audience or will it only alienate horror fans ensuring the quick death of the revival? Only time will tell.

Burn Up is a two part tele-pic about the international conspiracy behind the oil industry and climate change. Planet Green’s head, Laura Michalchyshyn, told Daily Variety “I think it’s ground-breaking, it’s provocative, and it’s really dead on in terms of messaging for this channel.”

Penry-Jones plays an oilman, Whitford’s a Washington lobbyist and Campbell portrays an environmental activist who upsets their status quo. I’ll say that I’m definitely excited to see Bradley Whitford back in the Beltway! You Wingnuts know what I’m talking about…

Planet Green is airing Burn Up to coincide with the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen that begins Dec. 7. Off-air promotion will largely be online and via social media so keep an eye out on the interwebs and help get the message out.

This will be the cable station’s first venture into scripted content.

“I can’t promise anything.”

That is what Kevin Williamson said when I asked point blank if his claim to “never play Sid out that way” still stood. But first, some backstory. In July, it was revealed that Neve Campbell passed on returning for the upcoming “Scream 4,” a fact I celebrated since horror movies have a habit of killing off their heroines when they return for subsequent sequels.

Kevin emailed me personally to say that he would never do that to Miss Prescott and I officially hopped on board the new trilogy train. So when I had the opportunity to chat with Kevin about “Vampire Diaries” [look for that tomorrow], talk naturally turned to the next three “Scream” movies and that’s when Kevin revealed Sidney might not survive to see the end credits.

“The thing about ‘Scream 4′ is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can’t promise anything,” he told PopWrap about Sidney’s role in the fourth film now that Neve will return. “There are a lot of moving pieces, so we’ll see — but if you’re a ‘Scream’ fan, I think you’re really going to like it.”

As for the elements that will make this next crop of killings so exciting, Kevin explained that the changing face of horror over the last 10 years has also altered the tone of the new movie.

“I’ve [included] manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, there’s some PG-13 horror movies in there, vampire movies, M. Night Shyamalan movies and torture porn movies, even though they’ve come and gone.”

But the biggest hurdle Kevin faced while shaping “Scream 4″ was not making it too jokey. “You have to be careful because ‘Scary Movie’ spoofed these films, so one of the things I’m excited about with ‘Scream 4′ is that, while we do lampoon and send up the genre, [we] make it incredibly scary. That’s first and foremost.”

So while Sidney Prescott might not live to see “Scream 5,” Kevin would like us all to rest assured that we’re in for a terrifying ride.

In 1996, “Scream” came out of nowhere to bring the horror genre back from the dead like Michael Myers sitting up after a coat hanger to the eyeball. Acclaimed as the smartest horror film in years, it yielded a trilogy that would gross hundreds of millions of dollars and clear a path for dozens of self-aware genre flicks ranging from “Zombieland” to “Adaptation.”

Now, it’s getting ready to come back again for another stab.

“It’s going good,” said writer Kevin Williamson, giving us an exclusive update on the new trilogy (!) he’s writing. “I’ve gotta finish that baby.”

The series made box-office stars out of Neve Campbell, Jamie Kennedy and Skeet Ulrich as they were teamed alongside Drew Barrymore, Patrick Dempsey, Heather Graham and others in twisty, bloody plotlines. But according to Williamson, the new trilogy will only bring back three actors from the original series.

“The fourth one is an ensemble,” Williamson said of his “Scream 4″ script, which is being concurrently written with a fifth script as well. “It’ll take place right now, 10 years later, and it’s going to take place in [Sidney Prescott's hometown of] Woodsboro. We’ll have our three main characters, and we’ll be introducing several more.”

The three characters that will be returning are Sidney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courteney Cox) and Dewey (David Arquette), Williamson confirmed, adding, “We’ll also be introducing a little group, a little ensemble of new castmembers. That’ll take us through the next three.”

Some might say that a new “Scream” movie couldn’t be as self-referential as the others, since self-aware entertainment has become so prevalent. But according to Williamson, he’s been writing plenty of spoof-heavy stuff into the “Scream 4″ script.

“I guess I’ll just have to be very aware of the fact that we’re a ‘4′ and that we’re beating a dead dog. I’m going to make that very apparent in the dialogue,” laughed the writer/producer, who is also hard at work these days making “The Vampire Diaries” into a TV juggernaut.

“Come on,” he laughed. “It’s the age of the remake! And 3-D and all that [other horror fad material], can you imagine what ['Scream' movie-within-a-movie] ‘Stab 10′ is like?”

Middle Eastern oil refineries have nothing on the tar sands of Alberta, Canada. According to a new documentary, one of the world’s most polluting industrial projects lies just north of the American border. Not only do Americans not know it, but our insatiable appetite for oil is also keeping oil extractors in business.

Dirty Oil, which premiered Oct. 11 at the 17th annual Hamptons International Film Festival, documents the oil extraction process in the tar sands of Northern Alberta. Narrated by Canadian actress Neve Campbell (of Scream and Party of Five fame), the film mines the contentious relationship between government, oil industry and environmental interests. The process of gleaning oil from tar sands, environmentalists say, emits three times more greenhouse gases than conventional oil and takes the energy equivalent of two barrels of oil to produce three. It uses four times as much water and heat.

Directed by Academy Award-nominated director Leslie Iwerks – who brought movies like Downstream, The Recycled Life and The Pixar Story to film – the documentary feature follows the oil pipelines from Canada to American refineries in the Midwest, which at times dump toxic waste into the Great Lakes. Dirty Oil is the first original feature film from Babelgum, a site offering mobile videos, which focuses on film, art and comedy.

The story of Canada’s oil extraction industry is not new. The film lambasts Bush administration policies that were governed by oil interests, and it also delves into the policies of the Obama White House. As recently as August 2009, the Obama administration approved a new oil pipeline between Canada and the United States. Government officials said construction of the Alberta Clipper Pipeline sent a “positive economic signal,” but others weren’t so sure.

“The global impact of tar sands production on climate change will probably be several magnitudes greater than has been estimated,” wrote Andrew Nikiforuk in a report published by Greenpeace in September 2009. Canada currently is one of the world’s leading emitters of greenhouse gases and a global defender of dirty fuels, the report said. “The cannibalization of Canada’s natural gas supplies by the tar sands is unsustainable,” Nikiforuk wrote.

“Digging up the tar sands is a dirty, wasteful business,” Josh Harkinson wrote in “Tar Wars,” which appeared in the May/June 2008 issue of Mother Jones. “Converting tar sand into gasoline emits up to three times the greenhouse gases as drilling and refining conventional oil.”

Despite the bleak picture, a glimmer of positive news recently surfaced. According to a report in The New York Times, energy giant EnCana, based in Alberta, said it is developing a bitumen extraction process to reduce natural gas consumption. The process would also increase well productivity, the company said. We’re staying tuned.

Peter Bart at Variety is reporting Scream IV will start production in April or May 2010 as the first film in a new trilogy and Dimension is in talks with Scream 1, 2 and 3 helmer Wes Craven to return for the new franchise. On top of that he reports Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette will star.

The news comes as part of a piece announcing a new slate of films Dimension is putting into production. Along with Scream IV there’s word Robert Rodriguez is writing a Spy Kids IV which he apparently will direct (where will he find the time) and will start shooting in March 2010 according to Dimension head Bob Weinstein.

Along with those two films there’s also the previously announced Halloween 3-D and a remake of Children of the Corn. Weinstein is heading back to the franchise mold with plans to also shoot sequels to Hellraiser and Scanners in 3D as well as remakes of Short Circuit and American Warewolf in London.

Weinstein told Variety “there is no question that financing is readily available to produce and market these films.”

The actress, best known for her role as Sidney Prescott in the horror franchise, said Scream 4 is on the cards.

“Well they’re gonna make it and they’re trying to get me in,” she said. “We’re in negotiations, we’ll see.”

Speaking on the red carpet at the London premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s new movie Inglourious Basterds, the Canadian actress revealed she was a big fan of the controversial US director.

“He’s a visionary and that’s what I love about him, I love the fact that he really tries to break barriers,” she said.

Neve also said she loves everything about living in the UK – especially its proximity to other countries.

The Hollywood star, who first made an impact in early 90s show Party Of Five playing Lost star Matthew Fox’s sister, said: “I love the city (London), I love the culture here, I love being close to so many countries.”

She added: “I love being so close to the other countries and cultures, I really love that about it. Being from Canada it takes eight hours to get across the country, it takes a long time to get anywhere else. So I love being in a place where you can visit other places.”

However, that isn’t necessarily the interesting part.

EW goes on to say Williamson has been working on a whole new trilogy that will bring back many of the characters from the original franchise, making this sound like we are talking about more of a remake/reboot than an actual Scream 4.

EW says the hope is to begin work on the new franchise this fall and there is no word on whether Neve Campbell as the lead protagonist will be returning.
